The beautiful countryside offers endless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts of all abilities.
There is so much to see and do in this beautiful
part of the country. Whether you'd like to go canoeing on the River Wye,
tackle the Black Mountains by mountain bike, shoot at clay pigeons or
perhaps take an exhilarating walk and then relax in our comfortable lounge
bar, there is something for all ages!

Walking
Climbing or walking in the Black Mountains is a wonderful experience. The Offas Dyke Path and The Wye Valley Walk both run through the area and provide walks for all abilities. There are numerous other walking paths and we will be happy to advise on some of the most popular and the more remote.

Golf
Hay boasts a challenging nine-hole, 5858 yards par 70 golf course. Being in the hills,
the course provides stunning views of the area and a challenge for players of
all levels, all at an affordable price.

Gliding
Gliding is a superb way to really see the mountains and surrounding countryside. The Black Mountains Gliding Club is situated just outside Talgarth and is open 7 days a week. Trial lessons can be arranged and fully qualified instructors are on hand providing tuition to all levels.

Fishing
Fishing in the Wye is probably the oldest form of outdoor activity enjoyed in
the area, a permit is required even to fish the towns waters and private
stretches need the permission of the owners.

Canoeing
The Wye can be canoed throughout the year from the tiny village of Glasbury, just above Hay, down to the castle town of Chepstow where the river flows into the Bristol Channel, a total of 100 miles in all. There are several operators providing trips from half days, full days and hire by the hour. Let us know what suits you and we'll be happy to advise.

Cycling/Mountain Biking
Cycling is a superb way to enjoy the local countryside, to take care of the environment and to take some beneficial exercise. There are several cycle routes through the National Park as well as more challenging mountain bike routes. Bikes can be hired by the hour or day and again we'll be happy to advise on routes.

Pony Trekking
One way to savour the steep, ragged slopes or gentle, wooded valleys of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains is from the back of a horse or mountain pony. Day trips, half days and overnight adventures are all available.
